Lady Deathlok

When I look back at the year 2008 I remember it fondly. It was the year I stopped being ”jail bait”, first time I ever drank, and also the year I was introduced to the woman who would reign over my iPod for years to come. Her name was Lady Gaga and she was amazing.

I fell in love with her edgy, narcissistic persona and devoured her music immediately. I was one of her hugest fans up until the debut of her new monster persona and since then things haven't been the same between us.

Till this day i'm not a big fan of her newer message based sound. I miss the high glam, vanity themed music that was pointless and that brings me to the story at hand. I had to find some way to rationalize her changing and so I figured out the simplest answer: she has been replaced by aliens, Skrulls to be exact. If you're a Marvel fan you obviously know what i'm talking about. The Skrulls are an ancient alien race first encountered by the Fantastic Four.

They're crazy shapeshifters who believe the earth belongs to them and try to take it at every turn. The idea for the story came from that very notion that she had been replaced and subsequently the real Gaga was now fighting to get back her identity. How, you might ask? Well there's also another Marvel character known as Deathlok who's basically a cyborg soldier. It's through his persona that she does such. It makes a lot more sense one you've read it and so I'll leave you to do such.

Enjoy and as always comment, share, and all that jazz!

X-men: Celestial Wars Part 1

X-men: Celestial Wars Part 1

Everyone who knows me knows that I'm a massive fan of Marvel Comics, more so the group known as the X-men. They were my introduction into comic books and growing up a young gay black male in america they were more or less my role models when it came to being different. Though their line up and location have changed over the years one thing has remained constant with them and that is that they are and will always be a minority fighting for their equal rights.

This may have changed more or less in a few places but the series stays true to this concept. Or at least it used to. This series has ran for decades upon decades and many exciting, as well as terrible, stories have been told with these characters. They've had extreme highs and extreme lows. One particular low has never set right with me however and that is how this story idea came to pass.

There came a time in the year 2005 where he head editors at Marvel thought that mutant-kind had grown too big for it's britches and while some may have agreed a lot of us X-Fans saw this as a natural progression of the line. It only makes sense that at some point a minority would stop being a minority and especially so in the case of the X-men's concept. Normal people who suddenly find themselves different from others at puberty.

This natural progression was not to be however and December of that year the X-men found themselves Decimated at the hands of one of their own kind. This act reduced mutant-kind to all but 198 out of the possible 16 billion and since then things have never been the same.

Back with a Vengeance!

Back with a Vengeance!!

I'm back after a few month's hiatus! Though I've been inactive here I have been putting in work when it comes to my writing. After several months of trudging, writing, and rewriting I've finally made some headway into my first novel. My novel in progress, The Super Novas, set at 22 chapters is now a little over halfway complete. I've just hit my fourteenth chapter and so far I'm loving where it's going. For those of you unfamiliar with my novel you can find an excerpt here and for those too lazy to open the link I'll let you know that it's a high octane adventure story starring the titular characters as they come together as a team to save the world. However things aren't as simple as that when it comes to superhero fare and even less so when it comes to my interpretations. Readers of the story will find themselves thrust into an earth much like our own aside from the presence of costumed crime-fighters and caped crusaders. Our main characters aren't much like your average group of heroes and it shows within the first few pages of the novel.

I'm hoping to have it complete by years end and after that I hope to find an agent to pitch this too. (Wish me luck!!)

That isn't the only thing I've been working on though.

The Super Novas - My Novel in Progress

With the sudden onset of writer's block I've found myself unable to complete several of my shorties that I want to post on here. But rather than sitting around and letting my blog die once again I'll soldier on and bring you something I've been working on for what feels like decades.

This is my novel, or at least it will be once I hammer down the first draft. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I won't just stroke off again and finally finish the story I've been trying to tell for years.

I call it "The Super Novas" but that's more of a working title. The story focuses around the titular team that soon forms as the world around them falls apart both literally and metaphorically. As they always say "write what you know" I did just that and based some of this off of a few friends and acquaintances of mine. From the original idea of a few people gaining abilities in a freak accident the current story has evolved into something a bit more substantial. At the heart of it it's a story about a fractured relationship and how the two people involved try their best to keep it together while on the other hand a new relationship is beginning to bloom even though hardships and roadblocks begin to make themselves known.

I've spent months trying to work on interweaving this sort of dramatic tale with the action and adventure that come with superheroics and though I'm not there just yet I know that I'm close to my final goal. Hopefully I'll be able to get it published by the time the world ends and hopefully people will enjoy it and buy millions.

But for now I present to you my baby: The Super Novas. Below you'll find a short synopsis. Enjoy and please comment!!

This is how the world ends. Not with a whimper but with a Super Nova. When her world is shattered by supernatural attacks it's up to disgraced superhero Nicki Bronz to break back into her old life and take charge of a new, more volatile, team. But will she succeed when she has to face a rival super-group out for fame, fairy tales and myths brought to life, and enemies from within her own team or even herself?

Conversations in Tights - In Memoriam

This is the story that started this whole blog concept for me. It started as the simple tale of a man returning home to find that this place is no longer his own. From there it spiraled out into several ideas of doing character studies about what people with superhuman powers would go through in tragic events.

This kind of thinking may make me sounds like a downer by the time you get up to this post if you started reading from the first story but it's these tenuous bonds I hope to explore more of and to reach that goal I've decided to make Conversations in Tights a series of slightly interwoven tales about this group of heroes and how they live doing what they do.

In this tale the group deals with the death of one of their members. This is just the start of it and though it may seem like an ending to most to them it's more or less just a Tuesday.

As always, comment!!

Shrodinger - The man who is and is not

Most of us know who Erwin Schrodinger is in one way or another. Either through internet reference of his Schrodinger's Cat equation or paradoxical experiments in school. It is the cat that lives and doesn't live all at the same time.

I thought about this concept when I wrote up this story as a part of a Writer's Digest contest which I unfortunately didn't win the first go around but I still stick by the tale.

It's the story of a man who is stuck in perpetual unlife after being accidentally exposed to foreign chemicals. What follows is the tale I try to tell of what life is like for him and how he copes with being and not being. Enjoy the story and comment like crazy.

In Five Days - Story of the End

I don't quite remember how I came up with the concept for this story. It was probably just a very simple idea. When the world ends, how do you plan on going out? I for one know I'll be getting shit-faced beyond recognition but I suppose a lot of people don't quite know what they'll be doing. The people in my story seem to have the same problem. However it's laid out rather dramatically here.

As the world ends In Five Days, how will these heroes cope with not being able to stop it? Read on to find out.

Okay, if you're reading this then more than likely you're someone I know who I've tricked into coming to this site to gain blog traffic. In the event that you are not this person then I have to say kudos and thank you for being able to find my obscure little blog.

For those of you who don't know me i'm Brian and I'm pretty awesome.
